Black Handcrafted Iron Eyes Wood Mask

Slender and elegant, a youthful visage looks downward impassively. Lavishly embossed plates of brass extend from the arched eyebrows to the base of the narrow nose. This beautiful mask by is named Ganku, or "Iron Eyes," in the Ewe language. "The ganku mask is worn by young men at circumcision ceremonies," the artisan explains. He sculpts it of sese wood and sands it to a smooth sheen. Dark tan polish and brass finish the piece. Made in Ghana
